Bren Announces $20 Million Gift for Open Space Preservation, Access

Irvine Co. chairman Donald Bren on Thursday announced a $20-million donation to preserve open space in the Irvine Ranch Land Reserve. Bren made the announcement at Irvine Regional Park, Orange County’s first regional park. The more than 50,000 acres in the land reserve include the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and Ecological Reserve and Crystal Cove State Park. Bren also announced the completion of 22-mile mountain-bike trail, connecting Weir Canyon to Newport Bay.
Among those attending the ceremony was Gale Norton, the secretary of the U.S. Interior Department.
